Named after two intrepid explorers who passed by the site of the Buronga Hill Winery on their adventures into the outback, Stuart & Hume Chardonnay is part of a small selection of wines put together by the winery’s extremely talented winemakers. Buronga Hill is now among Australia’s largest and most modern wineries, and is well-equipped to make great wine for everyday enjoyment … their fruity Chardonnay, with just a touch of toasty oak, is perfect for enjoying with creamy pasta or fresh seafood. ”Pineapple, peach and hints of fresh fig are complemented by a zingy lemon crispness and smooth, creamy vanilla.”

Loxton Ridge Chenin Chardonnay 2006

Aussie star winemaker Neil McGuigan crafted this superb little number from tiny parcels of grapes too precious for bigger blends. Crisp as a green apple thanks to the finest Chenin Blanc, with a dash of Chardonnay for roundness. Delightful wild flower and apple aromas lead to lingering flavours of peach, pineapple and citrus. Superb easy-drinking white.

Murray Fishing Club 2006

Murray Fishing Club 2006

Murray Fishing Club 2006

When a bunch of Aussie winemakers invited us on a fishing trip, we were treated to a really refreshing white, crafted by the hosts and specifically for long afternoons on the river … and this moreish, easy drinking white has become a huge favourite. The Murray Fishing Club may be an informal institution but they take their winemaking as seriously as their fishing. And this deliciously fresh, well-made blend of crisp honeyed Colombard and peachy ripe Chardonnay is one we didn’t want to get away. Packed with enticing citrus, nectarine and peach flavours, it’s wonderfully crisp and moreish. Perfect by itself or with freshly landed fish! However, although we secured our parcel at ‘mates’ rates’, there’s very little to go round. Cast us an order quick!

Three Hats Oak Aged Chardonnay 2005

Three Hats Oak Aged Chardonnay 2005

Three Hats Oak Aged Chardonnay 2005

The Miranda family winery was founded by Francesco ”Pop” Miranda and his wife, originally from Naples, in 1939. In the last 12 years, the family’s knowledge (gleaned from six generations) and talent has won them over 1,500 awards. Their ‘Three Hats’, named after Francesco’s three sons who took over the running of the cellar, is both fresh and aromatic - balancing rich fruit with a touch of balanced oak. Pale straw in colour with crisp aromas of peach and citrus. Apricot and citrus flavours are supported by a subtle vanilla character thanks to the gentle oak ageing. Three Hats makes a great glass on its own, but is just as delicious with creamy fish pie, roast chicken or Thai green curry.
